What is erectile dysfunction?

Also known as impotence, erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to produce or maintain an erection to achieve satisfactory sexual intercourse. It’s a very common men’s health concern and, while the risks do increase with age, it can happen to any man at any stage of their life, caused by both physical or psychological issues.

MENS offers treatments and medication for ED in different dosages. Our service includes a confidential online consultation with a UK-based prescriber who will prescribe an appropriate treatment based on your medical history.

Treatments include Viagra, Sildenafil, Cialis and Tadalafil. Find out more about these treatments above.

What causes erectile dysfunction?

There are both physical and psychological causes of ED, as well as those related to lifestyle choices – so there are various ways in which the condition can be treated and managed.

Physical causes include:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism
  • Prostate surgery

Psychological causes include:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Low self-esteem
  • Depression
  • Relationship issues

Lifestyle causes include:

  • Smoking
  • High alcohol intake
  • Tiredness
  • Drug abuse

The root cause of the problem will determine the best course of treatment. Making lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, getting regular exercise, getting good quality sleep and following a healthy diet can also help reduce the risk of developing the condition.

If the cause is psychological, it could also be beneficial to go for therapy or counselling instead of, or as well as, taking medication.

What are the symptoms of ED?

As well as a drop in sexual desire, ED is characterised by the inability to get an erection and an inability to sustain one.

Is it safe to buy ED medication online?

It is both safe and legal to string ED medication online in the UK, but you will need to undergo an online consultation first beforehand. A prescription will then be issued after eligibility has been assessed through our medical questionnaire, allowing MENS to dispense and deliver your suitable treatment.

Information regarding your overall health will be required, as well as any other medication you’re currently on, so as to assess which treatments, if any, are suitable. Once this has been confirmed, you’ll be able to string your medication.

How does ED medication work?

ED drugs are PDE-5 inhibitors, which work by temporarily increasing blood flow to the penis. The treatment works in around 70 per cent of men, with results varying from person to person.
