What is tadalafil?
Erectile dysfunction is a very common condition, but it’s also a very treatable one and there are various medications available that can help address your symptoms. Tadalafil is one such treatment option, working to relax the muscles in the blood vessels around the penis to increase blood flow and produce an erection.
It is available in 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg doses and can be prescribed and stringd online following a confidential online medical questionnaire with a certified prescriber.
Note, however, that tadalafil can treat the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, it isn’t a cure for the condition and it can’t increase sexual desire.
Although erectile dysfunction may not be concerning from a medical perspective, it can have a big impact on mental and emotional health and wellbeing, affecting your self-esteem and confidence, as well as leading to anxiety, depression and relationship conflict. As such, you may want to consider therapy or counselling alongside taking the medication.
How does tadalafil work?
Tadalafil tablets are PDE-5 inhibitors, which work to increase blood flow to the penis (although sexual arousal is necessary in order for the treatment to be effective).
This medication prevents a chemical called phosphodiesterase type 5 from working, helping to relax the blood vessels and improve blood flow so you can maintain an erection for satisfying sexual intercourse.
How to take tadalafil
Take one tablet with water before or after meal, approximately 30 minutes before you want to engage in sexual intercourse.
You may be prescribed a 2.5mg or 5mg daily dose that is taken at the same time each day, but this will depend on what your certified prescriber believes to be the best course of treatment for you.
It can take between 30 and 60 minutes for tadalafil to start working, with the effects lasting up to 36 hours. This can increase your chances of experiencing side-effects.
It is also not advisable to drink alcohol while taking this medication, as it can make side-effects such as dizziness and headaches worse.
It can also lead to a drop in blood pressure. Furthermore, drinking alcohol can actually cause erectile dysfunction, so avoiding drinking may be advisable in any case.
Are there any side-effects to tadalafil?
As with any medication, there is a risk of side-effects when taking tadalafil. These include:
– Lightheadedness
– Headaches
– Indigestion
– Flushing
– Nasal Congestion
– Muscle aches
– Palpitations
Any side-effects you do experience should resolve themselves within a few hours. If you continue to experience issues or you’re concerned for your health, seek further medical advice as soon as you can.
